Corinth

Corinth was one of the great city states of ancient Greece
Unfortunately is it mostly rubble today, this was one of the main areas in the ancient city
In the background is the large hill with fortress known as Acrocorinth

A closeup view of Acrocorinth. The fortress at the top of the hill was inhabited by the
various great empires through the ages including Byzantines, Crusaders and Ottomans

Corinth was completely destroyed by the Romans in 146 BC and then refounded by Julius Caesar

The buildings to the right were shops in ancient times

A testament to Caesar. Some caesar anyway

The last remaining great structure, the Temple of Apollo
Today only 7 of the original 38 columns are still standing
Don't ask us why a temple at Corinth has Doric columns !
