The Siegessaeule ( Victory Column )
The Siegessaeule is 200 feet high and was built by Kaiser Wilhelm to commemorate
the wars in 1864, 1866 and 1870 which resulted in the unification of Germany
At the top is the Victory Goddess. In one hand the wreath of Caesar,
in the other a scepter topped by an Iron Cross
Close by is a statue to the great Otto von Bismarck
Otherwise known as the "Iron Chancellor", Bismarck oversaw the unification of
Germany and was the first Chancellor of the new German Empire
A close up of the Goddess of Victory
A nice view showing the layers of the column
