The Pergamon

The Pergamon museum is named after the ancient city of Pergamon
The star piece is the reconstructed Altar of Pergamon from 2nd century BC

Along the Altar are scenes from the mythological battle between the Gods and the Giants

A brutal battle if there ever was one

The look on the face here reminds me of Christian imagery

In other rooms are impressive collections of temple columns

Huge columns

For comparision, Sonya and the temple columns

This is the famous Ishtar Gate of Babylon
It was constructed in about 575 BC by order of King Nebuchadnezzar II
This reconstruction was built by material excavated from the actual site

Moral of the story, whenever one goes to tourist sites always go when things first open
This was the line when we were leaving, I have taken the liberty of fudging out the faces
