The Brandenburg Gate

The Brandenburg Gate is perhaps the most iconic feature of Berlin
It was first built from 1788 to 1791

Most European cities were controlled through gates in times past
The Brandenburg is the only gate left for Berlin. The scupture on top is called a Quadriga

The Quadriga spent some time in Paris under Napolean but
was restored with the defeat of Napolean in 1814

The Gate is based of the Propylaea, the gateway to the Acropolis in Athens

The Gate anchors the road 'Strasse 17 Juni' looking down
towards the Siegessaeule ( Victory Column )
