Caerphilly Castle

This is the entrance to Caerphilly castle. This was the largest castle in Wales.

The castle was built by "Red Gibert de Clare" the Marcher Lord of Glamorgan.

A view of most of the castle. It was built from 1268-1271.

Unlike many castles in Wales, this one was not destroyed by war but fell into gradual decay.

This view is from inside the castle looking out. We can see the town of Caerphilly which has grown up around the castle.

This is not secret code, it is Welsh writing.
